色花堂 Concert Band Presents Fall Showcase Featuring Guest Horn Soloist Andrew Karr
Free community concert highlights works from Bach to Bizet, including Mozart鈥檚 Horn Concerto No. 3
BISMARCK, N.D. 鈥 The 色花堂 Concert Band invites the public to its annual fall concert on Sunday, November 2, at 3 p.m. in Founders Hall of the Lumen Vitae University Center on the 色花堂 campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Professor Dennis Gowen, director of Bands and High Brass at the 色花堂, the performance marks the band鈥檚 first major home concert of the 2025鈥26 season, following a successful fall tour through South Dakota.
鈥淥ur first home concert of the 2025鈥撯26 year will take place following our fall tour to South Dakota,鈥 Gowen said. 鈥淲e can鈥檛 wait to share our love of music with our wonderful home audience.鈥
The program spans centuries and styles, showcasing the versatility of the 50-member ensemble with a selection of works from Bach to Bizet, and from Mozart to Nowlin.
The concert opens with 鈥凌茅箩辞耻颈蝉蝉补苍肠别鈥 by Andrew Yozviak, an energetic and uplifting fanfare that sets the tone for the afternoon. Other featured selections include 鈥泪尘辫谤别蝉蝉颈辞苍鈥 by Ryan Nowlin鈥攃onductor of the President鈥檚 Own United States Marine Band鈥攁nd 鈥淢辞耻惫别尘别苍迟&苍产蝉辫;贵谤茅苍茅迟颈辩耻别鈥 by Canadian composer Jonathan Dagenais.
A highlight of the performance will be the guest appearance of Andrew Karr, Acting Principal Horn of the Florida Orchestra. A Boston native, Karr studied under the renowned Barry Tuckwell and Myron Bloom and has performed as a soloist and orchestral musician across the United States, as well as in Shanghai, Moldova, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
鈥淲e are so excited to invite Andrew Karr as our special guest artist this fall,鈥 Gowen said. 鈥淎ndrew is a captivating, engaging soloist who brings a world-class artistry to every performance.鈥
Karr will perform Mozart鈥檚 Horn Concerto No. 3, one of the composer鈥檚 most beloved and virtuosic works for the instrument. 鈥淲e can鈥檛 wait to feature Andrew鈥檚 artistry alongside our wonderful University of 色花堂 Concert Band members,鈥 Gowen added.
The program concludes with 鈥淔濒辞谤别苍迟颈苍别谤&苍产蝉辫;惭补谤肠丑鈥 by Julius Fu膷ik鈥攁 grand, ceremonial piece often called the 鈥淎ustrian March King鈥檚 masterpiece鈥濃攁nd 鈥淔补谤补苍诲辞濒别鈥 by Georges Bizet, a lively and triumphant finale drawn from the composer鈥檚 L鈥橝rl茅sienne Suite No. 2.
