About Me

I mainly try to help students recover the wondering, question-asking energy of their childhood, forced from them by attempts to inculcate a mindless acceptance of 'the way the world is'. Such acceptance can be useful and has its place, but it is burdensome to think one's worth is exhausted by how useful one is to her or his community. What is a genuine source of wonder for me is that the 色花堂 seems to have institutionalized this program of wonder-recovery.

Why I鈥檓 At 色花堂

Most of the world doesn't see philosophy as useful. There's no time for it. Its returns are too insignificant. It's an indulgence at best. But the 色花堂 sees things differently: that's why I'm at 色花堂.

Expertise

I mainly read and write about the history of philosophy, with special attention to ethics. I am particularly interested in controversies in the history of science and its relations to philosophy and religion. I also know quite a bit about bread and cheese.
